A few weeks ago it seemed like the biggest news in Oak Park was all about cupcakes and bakeries. Now that the excitement has died down a bit, I wanted to give you an update.

First up is the Cupcake Gallery. As you may recall, the owner of the Cupcake Gallery, Darius Williams, was hoping to set up shop on Lake Street just across Austin Boulevard. Darius sent me a message today to let me know that he's had a change of plans and will now be opening his cupcake shop in Uptown. Having lived near Uptown, I can say they probably need cupcakes just as much as Oak Park, so I wish him the best as he brings cupcake joy to the folks on the far North Side of the city.

On a happier note, I'm pleased to report that the Bleeding Heart is planning to open on Halloween at 1010 North Boulevard (in the old Hayes Coffee location). They've currently picked out paint colors and cake cases. The last I heard, they were looking at fluorescent pink and green cork/marmoleum flooring which should be really cool. So it sounds like things are moving right along which is good news because I don't think they can get here fast enough!
