What Do You Think of the 350 Signs in Oak Park?

There's an article in this week's Wednesday Journal about the mysterious 350 signs around Oak Park:

The Village of Oak Park has placed five of the large, black and white displays across the community to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, which is April 22.

The article goes on to… Continue

Letter Carrier Food Drive on May 8

Just a friendly reminder about the letter carrier food drive on May 8. Here's some more info from the food drive website:

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) announced today that the nation’s largest annual food drive to combat hunger will be conducted this year on Saturday, May 8. On that day, letter carriers will collect non-perishable donations from homes as…

What's Up With the Elementary School Names on the Sidewalk?

We were out for a walk today and noticed that "Hatch" had been painted end of many sidewalks in our neighborhood. We saw the same thing when we were walking by Mann. Has anyone else seen this in their neighborhood and do you know what it's for? I'm intrigued.

Muse Boutique Opens on Marion Street This Friday

As you probably know, there are currently a few vacant storefronts on Marion Street. Luckily one of them has been taken by a new boutique called Muse that is opening on Friday. Their ribbon cutting/grand opening is at 10:30 a.m. and they will be open until 9 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, they will even have live models. Here's some additional info I received from the Village about the store:

Stop Work Order for Delia's Kitchen on Lake Street

A helpful tipster recently provided me with an update on the restaurant going into the Maple Tree location on Lake Street known as Delia's Kitchen (or Cafe ... I'm not sure which). It appears that the renovations may be on hold as a result of the stop work order he spotted on the door.

Hopefully they won't be delayed too long. Oak Park is in need of some new breakfast alternatives asap.…

Restaurant Review: Aripo's

The long-awaited Venezuelan restaurant, Aripo's, officially opened it's doors on Wednesday to crowds of hungry Oak Parkers.

For those of you who haven't heard of Aripo's, they specialize in Venezuelan sandwiches called arepas. I've never had an arepa before, so I didn't really know what to expect.

First off, I will say that they did a great job with the renovation. The interior was colorful and cozy. They even had two small tables set up outside.

Aripo's Given… Continue

Goodbye Maple Tree, Hello Delia's Cafe

One of my followers on Twitter tipped me off to the fact that the windows of the Maple Tree restaurant on Lake Street have been papered up and there's a sign saying it's under new ownership with a new name -- Delia's Cafe.

I'll be sure to snap a photo the next time I'm downtown. I hope they do a major renovation job and jazz up the menu. Oak Park sorely needs a good brunch place (not a dinner restaurant that serves brunch) and it would be nice if they could fill that… Continue
