Tear Down the Building at Lake & Forest

Yeah, it is now a dangerous eyesore, and it's unfortunate that it's become such a wreck. That's what happens when tenants are booted from a building and no one maintains it. No one wants to spend mon…

BP on South Oak Park

Exactly. BP is no worse than any of the other gas/oil companies. In fact, they actually are better than a lot of them, despite the catastrophic negligence that caused the spill in the Gulf. Instead o…

Tear Down the Building at Lake & Forest

I hate that they mandate that these buildings get torn down BEFORE all the plans for new construction are finalized and financed and the permits are approved. Fortunately, the garage won't be torn d…

Window Washer Recs?

We use Anderson Window & Gutter several times a year to clean out our gutters (elm seeds in spring, leaves in fall). We've never had them do our windows, but they do a terrific job with the gutte…

We used Chicago Stucco Company. It wasn't a complete re-stucco. They removed all the latex paint that had been applied to the home over the years and fixed the existing stucco. They then repainted the house w/ stucco paint. They had a better price,…

We usually do takeout, but we went there a few weeks ago to try out the new locale. I like that there is more space, and it doesn't feel as cramped. On the other hand, the decorum feels more generic. The food is still terrific, though.

I used to get ink at Cartridge World on Lake near Euclid as it was much cheaper than anywhere else. Now that they have gone out of business, I've been getting refilled cartridges at Office Depot in Berwyn. They are more expensive, but they seem to l…

This is where I have a hard time buying the D97 is "fiscally responsible" argument. Being fiscally responsible is more than just living within the current budget and avoiding tax increases for 20 years. Those things are important. However, being fis…

I may be wrong, but I think part of the reason for all the stucco is that it is easier to maintain, repair, and cover deficiencies in older buildings. Instead of tuckpointing brick (or stone), they slap stucco over it. Also, stucco is strong and du…

Most, if not all, of the PTOs provide supplemental tech spending to their respective schools, and a lot of times, it makes a huge difference in the quality of the education that the schools provide. Imagine what the schools would be like without thi…

Profile Information

Favorite thing about living in the Oak Park area
It's close to the city, but it's not an urban environment. Yet. The diversity. The public school system. Public transit. The Park District programs. The skating rink. Rehm pool. The trees! The baseball/softball fields.
Least favorite thing about living in the Oak Park area
Taxes! Also, the increase in crime, the abandonment of the zoning code, and expensive handouts to developers who don't have the community's best interests at heart. Plus, we have way too many coffee and cell phone stores, and we need less national retail (and more local) shops. The lack of parking. The fact that Forest Park has a better pool.

New Rebozo, Mancini's, La Bella, Wishbone
