- Trees! I love that this community is SO green.
Even apartment buildings have big trees on the lawn, shrubs hugging the buildings, flowers near the walkways and potted plants on the stairs.
Some OP'ers even forgo the lawn entirely and grow exotic plants or vegetables right in front of their homes.
Oak Parkers LOVE nature and, of course, Oak Park LOVES music!
Every street fair and church and gathering place is a sure spot to find out where the next (very cool) live performance will be! And you might even have a chance to join in!
And, of course, books! To my knowledge, no one has actually done a head count on the number of book clubs in this town but it seems like EVERYONE is in a book club! Through their church, their hobby, their sport, their favorite place to hang out or their personal struggle or tragedy. You name it, Oak Parker's love to read (and write!) and talk about it!
Our awesome libraries always find an excuse to bring people together. Over books, films, politics, architecture or whatever.
A great place to meet other Oak Parkers who share your interests!
