This is an Oak Park-based organization that deals with buying local, including CSAs and supporting local farms. The site seems to be a bit outdated in terms of the pdfs that list local farms and CSAs in the area, but there is contact information rea…

Brunch sounds like a good idea.

They have a decent brunch on Sunday's if you're a sampler.

I have never tried them. I think maybe Ill give them a go even if im a picky eater.

Winberies is one of those places I've driven past many times but never stopped into. I'll add to the list of places to try.

I've been going to Winberies since 1995 when I first set foot on the Oak Park area. Back then it was called J.B. Winberies. I miss the Chocolate Mousse desert from their JB menu. After all these years, I don't think I've ever been disappointed. I s…

For some reason, we also tend to have long periods between eating at Winberies as well. I am not sure why given we always have a good meal. We have enjoyed the Sunday brunch for years. Always a good option when you have family in town and need a pla…

I have always enjoyed my meals there. My only criticism is that appetizers are a bit pricey. $9.00 for Calamari? WTF?

Winberie is our fool proof fall-back plan for when we have company, it appeals to all generations and is consistently good with a versatile menu. Although they used to have a Cuban Sandwich which they no longer have and we miss it.

Wow, that's quite an endorsement. We went there this week after a long hiatus and I have to say that it was a nice meal. I had even commented that we rarely go there even though the food is actually pretty good and so is the atmosphere. As for Fueg…

I just had to give a quick shout out to Winberie's. Last night, my heart/stomach was set on chicken enchiladas, but was thwarted when I was turned away from Fuego Loco. Apparently they close at 9:00. Which is mucho loco. So, despairing, I begrudgi…

Oh yeah, and the bonus: a way pre-West Wing Bradley Whitford as the scuzzy boyfriend, and a pre-Rent Anthony Rapp as comedic sidekick!

Yes! It's all here in ten parts.

I saw this movie so many times as a kid. I watched it again on YouTube recently. One thing that sticks out for me is Dawson's Garage being located on lower Wacker Drive. And run by Vincent D'onofrio. As Thor. That and the multi-ethnic gangs rumblin…

On Madison in Forest Park between Harlem and Des Plaines, you'll pass many Irish pubs: Horan's (so-so food, but good for a drink), Shanahan's (awesome food, with a Cajun bent), Doc Ryan's (great place to watch a sporting event), Molly Malone's (exce…

Profile Information

Favorite thing about living in the Oak Park area
My old apartment, living next to a park, the diversity of the people, the architecture, the history and being in walking distance to the el, Metra, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, three bookshops, a movie theater and two stage theaters.
Least favorite thing about living in the Oak Park area
People worrying about visiting because, "Oh my, will I be able to find parking?"
Interests & Hobbies
The arts (music, theater, movies, art, dance, etc.)
Favorite local restaurant
New Rebozo
Favorite local shop or business
Book Table
My Oak Park area business
I run the Grammy-award winning, world-touring, all around awesome new music group eighth blackbird. I work from home overlooking Mills Park, which is lovely, but the solitude drives me crazy. To combat that, I work a few nights a week at Marion Street Cheese Market. Serving is actually fun if you're not worried about money.

Winberie's

I just had to give a quick shout out to Winberie's.

Last night, my heart/stomach was set on chicken enchiladas, but was thwarted when I was turned away from Fuego Loco. Apparently they close at 9:00. Which is mucho loco.

So, despairing, I begrudgingly walked over to Winberie's. I can't say why I never considered it before. I just didn't.

I ended up having one of the best meals I've had in Oak Park (Chicken Puttanesca), and the service was equally outstanding.

All in all, a very pleasant surp… Continue

Green Line Panhandler

The Tribune has just run a story about Clarence Ervin, a panhandler I'm certain we've all had to deal with. Usually I can get him to leave me along, but twice I've nearly had to fight him when I've told him to leave other people alone. He comes inside MSCM to beg; one time I saw him stopping traffic to demand money from drivers.

And, according to the article:

CFPA: For or Against?

After seeing Elizabeth Warren on the Daily Show this week, I started looking around online for information about the bill she referred to in the end of the interview. She said it was critical that this legislation be passed and urged people to write to their senators. Eventually I realized she was talking about the CFPA, which was passed in the House and is now in the Senate.

Little angers me mo… Continue

Thanks for swinging by! As you probably noticed, we have a number of Oak Park Twitter folks on here. Must be nice overlooking the park. We kind of overlook a park (ok ... it's the playing field for an elementary school, but it's park-like) and it's definitely nice and serene when the kiddos aren't out there. Looking forward to chatting with you more.
