Profile Information

Favorite thing about living in the Oak Park area
I live in Forest Park, but my business is in Oak Park. Favorite thing would have to be the people and location. It is great to live in such a wonderful community and still retain easy access to the city.
Least favorite thing about living in the Oak Park area
I think it's a good thing that I had to think about this one for awhile.
I'll go with the price of indoor tennis court time...but that doesn't stop me from playing!
Interests & Hobbies
I love meeting new people and playing tennis. I'm an avid reader, admitted coffee snob, and enjoy getting involved in community organizations as well.
Favorite local restaurant
Caffe DeLuca, Aripo's
Favorite local shop or business
Blue Max
My Oak Park area business
I run my own financial planning practice here in Oak Park. I help people simplify their finances so they can spend more time doing the things they enjoy with the people they care about.

You can check out my website for more information. I post a new blog every Monday and a video blog once a month.

Thanks for the heads up, Sandy. I told my wife when I saw your post and the Groupon email this morning and she had already bought two before I was even out of bed. Phil, my money is on you for best avatar on LHOP (I love the hat!)

Thanks for the mention Brian, and kudos to Al-Mart for their offering to the community too!

Becca already made reference to Al Gorstein, owner of Al Mart Furniture, making an effort to help those affected by the flooding this past weekend, but I wanted to share it here as well. Here's Al's offer from his Facebook page: As the owner of Al…

I think you'd be getting closer with West Cook County, Cook County West, or Greater Oak Park. I will say most people I've encountered from outside the area know where Oak Park is, but are a little fuzzy on Forest Park or River Forest. I'm a Forest…

Almart Furniture is a excellent store and Al Gorstein is a great guy. Whether you were affected by the storm or not, you'd be doing yourself a favor by visiting and supporting Almart Furniture.

Agreed on all accounts. I'll drive out of my way to get my coffee at Blue Max (as I did this morning!)

Welcome to the area, Lisa. My wife and I also checked out Jazzin' at the Shedd Aquarium last night (with a Groupon special, it was a very good deal) and I second the recommendation by Russ. If you're looking for something local to Oak Park / River…

The Oak Park Tennis Center is NOT a private club like River Forest Tennis Club, but rather a public facility: http://www.oakparktennis.com/ I'm sure I'll come up with more & I will share when I do...

Heidi, the DuPage County Fair is being held in Wheaton this week and might fit what you're looking for. Here's the website: http://dupagecountyfair.org/ Hope it helps!

Emily, here's a similar discussion from a few days ago that I think would help answer your question as well. Hope it helps!

Our muffler broke on our ten year old car and had an awesome experience at Russo's on OP Avenue. Friendly, helpful and accomodating. They stayed open a few minutes later for me, which allowed me to drop my car in the am before work, and I got to pic…

Sandy, try Steve Soppet on Lake Street in River Forest. We have been using him for years and have recommended him to others who like him as well. He does not over-treat or push cosmetic services like others I've been to in the past. And when I moved…

A few of my favorites: Nora's Shoe Shop. Nora is sooo helpful and you come out with adorable, and perhaps more importantly, comfortable shoes. Great purses and jewelry too. Craigs (in Berwyn). Great old fashioned shoe store. Perfect for kids and t…

Thanks for sharing Roger and Sandy. Lots of good suggestions in both of your posts.

Roger, I'd second Sandy's comment and recommend Anna Bass as well. I've referred quite a few of my clients to Anna as I've been impressed with not only the quality of her work, but also her commitment and accessibility to her clients. Her website i…

Oak Park Tennis Center

As I'm sure many of you have seen driving past on the Forest Preserve on Harlem Ave, the Oak Park Tennis Center (OPTC) has been undergoing a major new court construction project and I'm happy to announce that the nine new eco-friendly Har-Tru courts are almost completed and the Center is now open for the season.

OPTC is a public facility and all are welcome to join as Season Pass Holders or stop in for public play at an hourly rate. There are many leagues (Mens, Womens, and Mixed Doubles), tour… Continue

Mancini's Making Their Move

According their ad in today's Wednesday Journal, it appears Mancini's will be closing their current location on Sunday, January 31st and opening their new location (1/2 block west) at 1111 Lake Street on Friday, February 5th.

I've walked by the new location a few times, but haven't looked inside. I would guess the space is at least slightly larger, but if anyone else has any details, feel free to share!

G.E.M. Deli and The "Shuckin" Grill Review

After stopping in Compass Eye Care yesterday (owner Al Licup just joined our forum by the way) to help pick out some glasses and contacts for my fiancee, we headed to downtown Forest Park looking for a late lunch.

Rather than reluctantly settling on Jimmy John's, I suggested we stop in GEM Deli just south of Circle Ave and Madison (the old La Bella Bistecca). While the interi… Continue

Adding a Live Here Oak Park Badge to Your Website

It's great to see our online community grow and I thought I would point out a feature of the website I just noticed today that can help our community expand even more. It is on the Live Here homepage on the lower right side and it is called Badge.

If you have an external website/blog, you can click on the Badge section and get the code to add a Live Here Oak Park badge to your external website/blog. It is an easy way to let more people know about our community here.

If anyone would like to add… Continue

Welcome back! a quiet few weeks, although the village's tourism group did propose a branding campaign for their tourism efforts that (a) maybe missed the mark and (b) created a logo looks like, um, a phallus.

Check out Becca's blog and a board thread by Christopher to catch up on the details. Oh, and a incomparable Chicagosphere blog post.

Congratulations! and welcome back.

Hi Brian,

It was great meeting you as well. I hope to spend more time with this group both on-line and at the meetups. I'll have to make a more concerted effort to keep up with everything local.
