I thought the OP parade was nice. I really like the neighborly vibe of the spectators and reminds me that OP is a great place to live. Yeah, the parade is probably kind of rinky dinky next to some larger towns, but I think it serves its purpose of bringing the community together. If the parade were any longer, I don't think I could stay the whole time. It is just the right size, imho. I am surprised the school doesn't have a marching band participate though. Personally, I don't need to see ten fire trucks. I mean are the extra 9 trucks any different from the first truck?
My only complaint about the parade is that some parents need to put their little rug rats on a leash. Way too many kids were running out in the middle of the street at risk of getting hit by a car.
We do Hinsdale's parade each year. The Oak Park 4th of July parade is just a wast of time in my mind- the year we went there were no fire trucks or marching bands, just community groups. Hindsdale has 10 firetrucks, three marching bands, bagpipes, and lots of great stuff!
