Aw, I wish I could help walk the dogs but I think it would make me sad.

There are many opportunities for volunteering at the Animal Care League in Oak Park.  Check out our website:   www.animalcareleague.org

We can use any help including dog walking, socializing with animals, laundry, helping with fundraising events, and off site adoption events.

Kyle,

There are a lot of great non-profits in the area that could use volunteers, including Pleasant Home! If you're interested in being a historic home tour docent, or helping out at special events, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at eledvort@pleasanthome.org.

Other thoughts are West Suburban PADS, OPRF Food Pantry, Animal Care League, Park District of OP, just to name a few. Hope this helps!

Hi Kyle, you might want to try contacting the library. I reached out to them when I was looking for volunteer opportunities and they were pretty responsive.

I wish there was an easier way to find volunteer opportunities around the Village. I also ended up checking VolunteerMatch but couldn't find anything nearby. Good luck.

Is there a place either in print or online that has a list of volunteering opportunities in the area? I'm young, hale and hearty so I'm down for anything from picking flowers to moving boulders if it helps people.

@Norma,

I admit- it' requires a lot of time.  But as a Girl Scout leader with my 8 year old daughter we have had a bevy of volunteer opportunities together: Food drive, water conservation project, and just this past weekend we made lunches for one of the PADS overnights.  (also we made some long term food packs for PREVAIL).  Of course, those opportunities are in large part because of the way my co-leader and I direct the activities the girls can choose.

There is also the Neighborhood Giving Project which has some fantastic opportunities.

And the YMCA if you belong or don't often has a lot of service projects they direct through their facility.  We made sandwiches there for a long time and also participated in the Thanksgiving feast for folks by providing muffins that we made. My daughter was too young to "serve" but not too young to help mix the muffins.

Good luck and have fun.

Hey there!  Looking to teach my daughter a bit about community and want to find something we can volunteer to do together.  She's 8.  Any ideas?

Hi everyone. Does anyone know of any organizations in the area that might be looking for volunteers to teach basic computer skills to adults? I've found a few places in the city or in the northern burbs, but I was trying to find something closer to home. Thanks!

Here are the details about the Fall/Winter Parenthesis Consignment Sale. They're looking for volunteers.

The Housing Center is the Doughnut Day charity for Saturday August 28 at the Farmer's Market and we could still use a few more volunteers. If anyone is interested, please send me an e-mail or reply here. No one works the whole time (except me and a few board members). It's a bunch of 3 hour shifts. So, it's not a big commitment. Thanks!
