Live Here Oak Park

An online community for people living in and around Oak Park, Illinois.

Would anyone ever be interested in a progressive dinner thing or a supper club group? I don't know if now is the right time in my life to start new stuff like this, but we've tossed around the idea for years after reading about them on Cooking Light:

I think it's something that would be less often than a book club, for example, maybe every 8 weeks on a schedule. A group would have to be fairly small depending on people's comfort in opening their homes, and could start by meeting up at a public location to kind of get to know each other.

Let me know if you're interested. I could spin this off into a meetup group to organize, if many are interested.
My husband and I love to cook and get a bit lazy about it without some reason to do so.

I would be interested in the supper club. We love to cook and do dinner parties as well. We did something similar with the OP Newcomers club.

I'd love to get involved with something like this!

This sounds really fun! I have a large dining room table that will seat up to 10, though my kitchen is small. How exactly will this work?

When we participated in the Newcomers supper club we would have a theme -- Italian for example. The host would make the main dish and then everyone else would bring sides, desserts or beverages. I was a lot of fun.

Would we want to set a date and ask for hosts? Would a host choose a theme and the rest follow? How do we collect RSVPs and set a cut-off to not have too many people?

Hey Ashley, you can actually use the events page on this website to set up the event and it it also allows RSVPs. I suppose the cut off would depend on the size of the host's table. The parties we went to were relatively small -- like 8-10 people.

I'd be interested :) We used to do an annual Hotluck when I lived in Philly, every dish was something spicy :)

Let me mull this over since we have enough interest to do something! The holidays are going to make it hard for everyone at home, right? So maybe we could start with a quick public meetup if anything, to decide how we could do it, etc.

My husband and I are interested in joining as well. He is the cook in our family, and we've actually been throwing around the idea of an oak park supper club with another local couple that we are friends with.

In addition to the idea of the host making the main, and everything else bringing a side, we've also heard of (and are interested in the idea of) supper clubs wehre the host is the head chef and others help out...The host purchases the ingredients and guests chip in to help cover costs.

Sounds fun! Let me know if you start one up!
