FYI, I called to check on the next Great Paint Exchange at the Public Works Dept since they're usually held in spring and fall, but the fall one has been cancelled this year. The next exchange won't be until next April.

In the meantime, you can dispose of old paint by letting it dry out--take off the lid, and if there's a lot still left, mixing in some kitty litter will speed up the process. Once the paint is solid, you can put it in the regular trash, according to the Public Works Dept.

I also have a call in to the West Cook Solid Waste Agency to see about household hazardous waste disposal events in our area, so I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Good tip. Hoping that #1 means there will be more. FYI, the Village will be putting the residential waste collection service contract out for bid when it expires the end of next year, so feel free to send your ideas for what you'd like to see in recycling, etc, services, to Karen Rozmus at Public Works.

Rechargeable batteries listed. Not sure about regular batteries.

Residents must unload their own items. Call 708.358.5700 or e-mail publicworks@oak-park.us for more information.

Simon - I believe Green Home Experts takes most small household batteries for recycling. They have boxes in the front. I'd call to confirm! Otherwise, you can wait for the next village electronics recycling, which I believe is coming up at the end of the summer.

We are now accepting little girls clothing and shoes for resale. Recycling is great but I believe reusing an item in its current form is an excellent way to be green. Our shop is Ga-Ga Girls Boutique located at 7017 W. North Ave in Oak Park. We are currently celebrating our first year anniversary in Oak Park! Website: www.shopgagagirls.com .

Hi all,
Is there any place in Oak Park we can recycle used batteries (AA, 9V, etc) ?
I always used dedicated trash (in Belgium) but from what I've seen at my work and here people are just trashing them in the recycle or normal garbage can.
Due to the heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadium, nickel, ...) those are very hazardous for the environment if not properly handled.
My wife and I are keeping them until to find a solution so any advice will be appreciated ;)
Thanks!
