Live Here Oak Park

An online community for people living in and around Oak Park, Illinois.

Chicago Magazine is asking readers to vote for the best hamburgers in the area and I think there are a couple of Oak Park-based burgers that could be added to the list.

Five Guys Oak Park IllinoisWhile there aren’t any Oak Park restaurants (except for the Lincoln Park Five Guys) on the official ballot, you do have the option to write-in your pick. Personally, I’m a big fan of the juicy patties at Winberie’s, Bar Louie and the Avenue Ale House so I’m feeling a little torn. I’ll have to let my stomach decide.

Who gets your vote for the best burger in Oak Park?

While I've had limited burger experience in Oak Park, I must say that surprisingly Leona's makes quite the burger. That being said, anything that comes on pretzel roll gets this carbaholics vote!

I just tried Five Guys last week and I will say it better than most fast food options, but I don't think it beats out Leona's.

Still haven't been to Winberie's, might have to check that out too.

I actually really like the hot dogs at 5 Guys ... but that's a topic for another day.

I love the Avenue Burger - blue cheese, crispy onions ... making me hungry!

I haven't tried many Opie burgers yet, so I'm eager to hear what others have to say. I have tried Five Guys twice and do understand the hype at all. It didn't strike me as anything special.

I rarely eat hamburgers, but I confess that when I really want one, I head over to Portillo's on Roosevelt. Granted, part of the reason is the excuse to get Chocolate Cake while I'm there (and yes, it is so good it deserves to be in all caps).

Ale House is good. Five Guys is ok. They aren't in Oak Park et al, but if you really want a good burger, go to Epic Burger on State Street just south of Congress. OMG! www.epicburger.com

5 Guys is to pricey for the size of their burgers but they do taste good. The Ale House gets the edge here.
My Weber and I cook up some tasty burgers though. :)

I think 5 Guys is *way* over-rated. The burgers are good, but they just aren't up to the hype, to me at least.

I just don't think there is a *great* burger joint in OP... but I haven't been to the Ale House. I'll have to check it out.

Dave, I believe the rooftop deck at the Ale House further enhances the already great burgers!

My vote? I went to the Avenue Alehouse and had what I guess is their signature burger, with the blue cheese and onions (I think the same thing Heidi was talking about). Oh my goodness. I dream about that burger. But Five Guys has also impressed me greatly...I can't decide!

I'll take Five Guys. Cheeseburger with barbecue sauce and grilled onions. Yowza.

I made it over to the Ale House and had their Jamaican Jerk burger. It was the best burger I've had in Oak Park yet, and Becca is absolutely right: eating it outside on the rooftop, with a cold beer after a long day, certainly enhanced the experience.

Jamican Jerk burger? That sounds interesting. Was it really spicy?
