I've been seeing a lot of stories about Caputo's grocery store in Elmwood Park lately. I haven't been there yet, but I'm curious to know what's so special about the store? How does it compare to Jewel or Trader Joe's?

Larger, better fruit, produce and meat selection. Expanded parking lot, but it's still crowded. Not as crazy as Tony's in NR. I went once last week just to see it and check out all the fuss and I think I'll go back next time I need to do a full replenish of food. Nice italian selction, great looking deli.

Better fruit? Now that sounds like it's worth the drive. Is it less-expensive than other stores?

I concur with Rich, MUCH more fruits and veggies to pick from and prices are MUCH lower. Same for meats and cheeses. Lots of good imported stuff at very reasonable prices too. My mom often special requests that I bring a 1/8 of a wheel of Romano, some "italian sub" meats, and cold pressed olive oil by the gallon when I come to visit since they can't get those things in TN. There's a reason they need traffic control to help manage the parking lot, it's INSANELY busy.

I don't go often, but whenever I remember to, I kick myself for not going more often.

Prices seemed to be very fair you definitely should check it out.

Oh Becca you hit a nerve for me.

Caputo's is heaven for me/us.

I was first introduced to this fresh-market cornucopia when we lived in Naperville and the opened almost directly across the street from where we lived. Think of a fresh market meets the best Italian bakery plus a local neighborhood butcher meets Capri Italian shop and you have Caputo's

The super fresh produce, olive bar, meats, deli, bakery and last but not least their imported pasta's and sauces are amazing. And, the prices are very good. They also have a small little cafe in the front of the store with fresh dinner foods - lasagna, meats, chicken and more.

Now, I'm hungry.

Are they open at 10:45 pm? I'm also hungry now.

I haven't been either, but keep hearing great things. Given the glowing reviews here, I've penciled it in for our weekly grocery trip next week.

Do they have organic produce and/or organic cheeses?

I've only been to the old Caputo's in Elmwood Park once, but I was beyond thrilled with the selection in fresh vegetables, pastas and the specialty canned items. Awesome prices, too! I miss South Philadelphia a little less with Caputo's around. Is the new one open? From the north side of OP, it's probably as close, if not closer, than Jewel.

better produce, more of a selection awesome deli. the carry long beans, i have never been anywhere that supplies these. they have a deli kiosk on the way in where you use a touch screen computer to order up everything. you get a printed receipt with a number on it to identify your order and approx. pick up time (usually 10-15min. or so) , which they pack and put it a cooler near the end of the deli counter. no waiting at that crazy counter! i haven't set foot in a jewel since this place opened.
