Is anyone else surprised by this? I park in lot 32 and the other week was the first time I saw a sheet posted announcing a price increase as of Jan 2010. I'm relatively new to the area, so maybe it's my fault for not attending the village meeting. But are things like this discussed there and do Oak Parkers actually have any say regarding decisions like this?

I'll keep parking there because I have no choice, I just think it's bad timing to raise prices on people. Particularly for parking, particularly for Oak Park, particularly after they just built more parking and are installing a pay kiosk in 32....ok I'll stop ranting now :)

How much is the parking increase? Where is lot 32?

Lot 32 is on Lake east of the movie theater, but the increase is for all lots..

It's a $35 increase for me, it's not so much the cost as the principle though that I'm having issue with.

I was surprised by the increase, too. I park in a "high demand" area (according to O.P.), but the top two floors of the garage are NEVER, EVER full. My rate is now going to be $195/quarter. What I'd really like to know is what I'm going to get for the extra $35/month. I had my bicycle parked in the same garage (locked) and we PAY a parking attendant to be on duty 24-hrs. My bicycle was stolen from the garage, which I find odd since there are cameras everywhere and an on-duty attendant. Sooooooo . . . . if the attendant isn't monitoring the garage, then what, pray tell, IS the attendant supposed to be doing????

Okay, I'll stop my ranting now, too.

i was shocked. i park in lot 35 by the austin green line stop, not the safest or in demand lot. my new rate is $165, which is goofy!!! that lot only has 24hr permits, yet they list a day pass at $160. only a 5 dollar difference doesn't seem right either. i only park there during the work week M-F, but i feel fleeced by the village.

You know I was talking to my coworker today and told him about the price increase and my complained to the village. He agreed and said they'll just keep doing it until people start complaining.

Let them know how you feel PublicWorks@oak-park.us
