Live Here Oak Park

An online community for people living in and around Oak Park, Illinois.

Just in case you weren't happy with our plethora of Thai restaurants, Bua Hana Thai is now open at 7330 Madison St in Forest Park. I haven't been able to find a website or spot in yet, but I did find this photo album (courtesy of the Wednesday Journal).

Has anyone been yet and if so, what were your thoughts?

Thanks for posting, Brian. I drove past the restaurant on Friday night and it was empty. Hopefully this was because it was before the dinner rush and not due to the fact that we now have four or five Thai restaurants on Madison Street.

I guess I don't quite get the Thai / Sushi combo that continues to pop up, but I'll definitely give it a shot.

I don't get it either. I've found that combos typically don't work well when it comes to restaurants. Usually only one half of the twosome is executed well. The other is just mediocre.

I actually went to Bua Hana this week for dinner. We were driving by and decided to pop in. To Becca's point, the mashup of Thai and Japanese (They have more than sushi in their Japanese section) did not work well. The thai dishes were good, we had Green curry and Pad kee mao (which was excellent, noodles a little on the well done side for a little extra al dente texture). But the agadashi tofu was...interesting, and I felt obligated to try a piece of sushi while I was there. My two pieces of maguro nigiri were...bad. I can't sugar coat it. The rice was over vinegared and too wet, the fish was fishy which was an immediate turn off. I asked them how long they had been open and they told me 14 days. I was kind of concerned that was the age of my fish.

I'd go back for the Thai, but the sushi is just to placate all the people who insist on having sushi mashed up with other asian cuisines. Most Asian fusions just end up being Asian confusion.

Here's an article from the Forest Park Review on Bua Hana.

I haven't been there yet, but I am surprised they opened so close to the relatively new Coral at 7600 Madison,
with the same types of food. http://www.coralsushithai.com/ I was there once and it was pretty good, though I
prefer Bodhi on Roosevelt http://www.bodhithaibistro.com. Will have to try the new one.
